As one who studied Jesus and both Old and New Testaments for 3 years, and then in a more relaxed way, I see Jesus being interested enough in his own faith to try and reform it, early on in that field. There were others too. So, the topics of justice and mercy were retold and retooled from more ancient texts, especially the prophets of the Old Testament. Whoever, whatever, whenever and we're still at it, trying to understand the intentions....
